After multiple schedule changes due to field conditions from weather, Colorado Christian got in two games at Regis University today, earning the sweep after winning both.
GAME 1: 4-3
Opening up the day with an exciting win, the Cougars came back after starting the game going down 4-0. The Rangers scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first to get going strong, but they were unable to score again after this.
Colorado Christian was quiet for the first couple innings, and scored a single run in the top of the third. Carly Perry scored after hitting a double, advanced to third on a sac bunt, and advanced home on a sac fly.
Taking the lead after a 4 run fifth inning, the Cougars were up by 1 run, 5-4. The Cougars landed four hits in a row to get their string of runs going. Stephanie Day got the big inning started with a double, and was brought home by a single from Charlotte Romero. Kacie Burger then doubled and brought home Romero. Shelby Fusich then hit a triple to bring home Burger. Caitlin McCarthy brought home the final run of the inning with a single that brought home Fusich. After their big inning the Cougars only faced three batters in the bottom of the fifth to keep the momentum going.
The fifth inning was another strong one for Colorado Christian after 3 hits and 3 runs. Stephanie Day and Charlotte Romero got the inning going with back to back singles. The Rangers tried to hold the Cougars from scoring and let Kacie Burger reach first and got Day out at third. But they weren't able to hold them for long, after Shelby Fusich hit a 3 RBI homerun to put the team up by 4.
Scoring one last run in the top of the seventh, the Colorado Christian sealed the win with a final score of 9-4. Charlotte Romero was hit by the pitch, advanced on a wild pitch, and made it home after a single from Fusich.
Kenzie Mattey earned her tenth win of the year after pitching the first four innings. Jennifer Romero came in to pitch in the fifth to finish out the game, facing ten batters and striking out five of them.
GAME 2: 11-1
Just like the first game of the day, the Cougars only let the Rangers score in the first inning. Regis scored a single run to start the game, but they were unable to score again.
The run-rule win began in the second, after Shelby Fusich had a hay day and hit her second homerun of the day. The teams were then tied up 1-1. The third inning however the Cougars came out swinging and landed 6 runs. With five singles in a row, Colorado Christian scored 3 more runs. These singles came from Hanna Farmer, Kendall Yasui, Stephanie Day, Charlotte Romero, and Kacie Burger. Carly Perry then hit a 2 RBI single, and was brought home after a double from Jamie Romero for the last run of the inning. Going into the fourth the Cougars had the lead 7-1.
Starting off the inning with two doubles in a row, Yasui and Day got the inning started strong. Charlotte Romero then singled to put runners on first and third. Kacie Burger then stepped up to hit a 3 RBI homerun of her own, putting the team ahead by 10 to seal the run-rule win.
Jennifer Romero stayed on the mound the entire five innings and tallied 6 strikeouts in her fourth season win.
UP NEXT: The win gives Colorado Christian an overall record of 16-7 and an RMAC record of 10-2. The Cougars are set to host their next series against Chadron State on Saturday the 23rd at 12pm and 2pm, and Sunday the 24th at 11am and 1pm. Â
