Streak Snapped in Split

Playing a mid-week pair of non-conference games at MSU Denver, Colorado Christian ended the day with the split and an 11 game winning streak snapped.

GAME 1: W 7-2

Getting on the board quick, the Cougars scored their first two batters for a pair of runs in the first inning. With three singles in a row from Hanna Farmer, Kendall Yasui, and Stephanie Day the Cougars brought home Farmer for their first run. Charlotte Romero then hit a sac fly to bring home Yasui for their second run. The Roadrunners were close to scoring in the bottom of the inning, but the Cougar defense was able to hold them.

After taking advantage of an error in the secong inning, Colorado Christian notched another pair of runs. Carly Perry started it off with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out. Caitlin McCarthy then reached second on an error which brought home Perry. McCarthy was brought home by the next batter after Hanna Farmer singled to bring her home, making the score 4-0.

Both teams were scoreless in the third, but the Roadrunners got on the board after a homerun in the fourth and tallied another in the fifth to shorten the Cougars lead to 2, but they were unable to score again.

Colorado Christian responded and scored three runs in the sixth to seal their win 7-2. Carly Perry was again the first to score in the inning, after reaching on an error, stealing second, and making it home after another error that also put Jamie Romero on first. Caitlin McCarthy walked and Hanna Farmer was hit by the pitch to load the bases for Stephanie Day. Day hit a single to bring home Romero and McCarthy for the final runs of the game.

Kenzie Mattey started on the mound and earned the win, and was relieved by Jennifer Romero who tallied her first save of the season after tallying five strikeouts in three innings. The win marked the 11th in a row for the Cougars.

GAME 2: L 2-3

This time around MSU Denver was the first on the board, scoring a single run in the bottom of the first. But the Cougars responded and tallied two runs in the top of the third to take the lead. With two outs on the board, Hanna Farmer got the Cougars going with a single. She was brought home after a double down the left line from Kendall Yasui, and Yasui was brought home after a single from Stephanie Day.

The Roadrunners tacked in another run in the bottom of the third to tie up the game, and had another single in the bottom of the fourth for the final run of the game to take the lead. Both teams went three up three down in the fifth to make it a quick inning, and were unable to score again.

UP NEXT: After eleven wins in a row the Cougars streak was snapped by a single run, but the team will bounce back quick as they head to Pueblo this weekend for a series against the Thunderwolves at CSU Pueblo on Saturday the 30th and Sunday the 31st. Colorado Christian is now 21-8 overall and 14-2 in conference.
