After some extra innings and a long day of softball, the Cougars came away with a split on their second day against CSU Pueblo.
GAME 1: L 4-5
Coming off of a hard loss the day before, the Thunderwolves came in to day two against Colorado Christian with a new fire. They were the first on the board after landing 3 runs in the first inning.
The Cougars were scoreless for the first few innings, but landed a pair of runs in the fourth to get the team rolling. Charlotte Romero landed the first run after hitting a homerun, and was followed by a double from Kacie Burger. Burger was then brought home after a single from Caitlin McCarthy to close out the inning and make the score 2-3.
CSU Pueblo scored another run in the sixth to increase their lead to 2, but Colorado Christian was able to tie up the score in the top of the seventh to take it into extra innings. Hanna Farmer got it started with a single, and Charlotte Romero then reached on a fielder's choice. Jamie Romero came in to pinch run for the fellow Romero, and both runners made it home after a homerun from Kacie Burger. However after some confusion on the play, the homerun was taken away and awarded an out after the runners came home out of order. This tied up the score 4-4 for the next few innings of play .
After a lot of back and forth, the Thunderwolves were able to earn a run in the tenth to end the game with a final score of 5-4.
Jennifer Romero took the loss on the mound but tallied 5 strikeouts throughout the game.
GAME 2: W 5-0
Not liking the results of game three, Colorado Christian came back despite the loss and shutout the Thunderwolves in the final game of the series.
Hanna Farmer yet again got the team going after hitting a single, stealing second, making it to third on an error, then scoring on a wild pitch for the first run of the game. The Cougars scored again in the second after notching in a pair of runs to go up by three. Shelby Fusich was the first to put her name on a hit in the second and made it home after hitting a single, advancing after Jamie Romero reached on a fielder's choice, then both runners making it home thanks to a Hanna Farmer double.
The next run came after a Carly Perry homerun, making the score 4-0 in the fourth. The trend continued and Charlotte Romero hit a homerun in the fifth to make the score 5-0. Colorado Christian took the final game of the series to earn their 24th win of the year.
Kenzie Mattey earned her fourteenth win of the year on the mound, tallying 5 strikeouts in the feat.
