Opening up their weekend with a pair of wins in Colorado Springs, the Cougars were able to keep the Mountain Lions to no runs on the day.
GAME 1: W 5-0
Starting out the day with a bang, Carly Perry put the Cougars on the board after hitting a homerun in the top of the second, making the score 2-0 after bringing home Kacie Burger who was hit by the pitch.
The next run for Colorado Christian came in the fifth after the bases were loaded for Kacie Burger after a pair of singles from Hanna Farmer and Kendall Yasui, followed by Charlotte Romero getting hit by the pitch. Burger hit a sac fly to bring home Farmer and put the Cougars up by 3.
Stephanie Day got the seventh inning started with a homerun over left field, making the score 4-0. The next and final run of the day came after Charlotte Romero singled, her pinch runner Alex Garlock stole second, advanced to third thanks to a single from Caitlin McCarthy, and made it home after a sac fly from Carly Perry.
Jennifer Romero earned her ninth win of the year after staying on the mound the entire game.
GAME 2: W 7-0
Hanna Farmer was the first to make it home after hitting a single, stealing second, and scoring the first run of the day after a Charlotte Romero single. Kacie Burger also hit a single and was followed by Caitlin McCarthy reaching on a fielder's choice to load the bases. After a passed ball all the runners advanced to put the Cougars up by 2.
The first one on base for the second inning in a row was Hanna Farmer, this time after a walk. Kendall Yasui then reached after a fielder's choice that took out Farmer, advancing Yasui to second. Stephanie Day then brought Yasui home with a single for the only run of the inning.
Scoring another single in the fourth the Cougars increased their lead by 4 runs. Yet again Hanna Farmer was the first on base after hitting a single, stealing second, advancing to third on a ground out, and making it home after a double from Stephanie Day.
Keeping the trend going, Hanna Farmer was the first on base in the sixth after hitting a single and stealing second. She didn't have to wait long before the next batter brought her home with a single from Kendall Yasui, making the score going into the seventh inning 5-0. The Cougars weren't done yet and like the first game they closed out the game with a pair of runs. Kacie Burger got the final inning going with a double, and advanced to third on a passed ball that put Caitlin McCarthy on first. Shelby Fusich brought them home with a 2 RBI single to finish out the game, making the final score 7-0.
On the mound for almost the entire game was Kenzie Mattey, earning her fifteenth win of the year.
UP NEXT: The pair of wins gives the team an overall record of 26-9 and an RMAC record of 19-3. Finishing out the series with another pair of wins tomorrow the team will face the Mountain Lions at 11am and 1pm, before their next home series against Colorado School of Mines beginning on the thirteenth.
