MSUD Bats Still Hot in Saturday Defeat

CCU baseballs opening weekend continued on Saturday afternoon against the conference leading squad from Metro State and had a nearly identical outcome to Friday's opener as the Cougars dropped game two of the series by a score of 3-8. Another late rally again fell short as Colorado Christian drops to 8-23 on the season, and 3-15 in RMAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Roadrunners didn't put on quite the same power show they had yesterday but did record pair of bombs during the game. MSUD scored two runs in four separate innings, going up 6-0 before the Cougars were able to put up a run of their own. Metro States Logan Soole, who just 24 hours prior went 3-4 at the plate and came up just a single shy of a cycle, got the starting pitching nod for Saturday's game, holding the Cougars mostly in check in six innings of work.

The Cougars were initially banned from the bases until an Alex Ginn walk in the 5th inning, but finally recorded their first hit in the bottom of the 6th inning. It was a big hit from designated hitter Sam Gallegos who launched no-doubter homerun to left field on the second pitch he saw. However, at the end of the day, only one Cougar, Tommy Orr, had multiple base hits, going 2-3. Heath Hays and Wyatt Crenshaw both came in to pinch hit in the 9th inning and made their at-bats count as they recorded a run and an RBI respectively.

WHAT IS NEXT:

CCU will take on MSUD in a rare Sunday doubleheader to finish out the weekends series. Both games are scheduled for seven innings with the first slated to start at 12:oo p.m. at All Star Park.
