Late First Half Run Propels Adams State

ALAMOSA, CO – Nearing the end of a season-long conference road swing, the Cougars were looking for their first road victory of the campaign.

The victory remained elusive for Colorado Christian as Adams State used a late first half scoring spurt to help pace them to a 101-82 win on Friday evening.

It was the third straight RMAC road game for the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars led for nearly half of the opening frame but a late scoring drive gave the home team a halftime lead. Colorado Christian held their biggest lead of the game (25-20) when Elijah Oliver hit a three-pointer with 9:53 left until halftime. Adams State took the lead, at 32-30, for good with a Juwan Green lay-up just before the under-four minute timeout. That field goal started a 16-7 scoring run for the Grizzles as they took a 45-37 lead into the locker room.

The opening minutes of the second half saw the Cougars hit their first three shots as they pulled within five points twice but could not get their deficit down to a single possession. Adams State stretched their lead into double figures with just over 15 minutes left and never looked back.

The home team shot 57.8 percent from the floor in the contest, including a 62.1 percent effort in the second half as they scored 56 in that particular half.

SCORING SPENCER: Spencer Hoffman led the way with another career high effort. After scoring 24 points in each of the Cougars games last week, he went for 30 this evening. It is the first 30-plus point game for a Colorado Christian player since Stefan Hackethal's 37-point effort against Bethel in November of 2017.

The sophomore went 12-for-15 from the floor in addition to nailing six of his eight shots from the charity stripe. He also grabbed a team high seven rebounds in 30 minutes on the court.

COUGAR LEADERS: Oliver scored 11 points in 22 minutes off the bench while Aiden Cantwell went 4-for-7 from the floor during his 10-point effort.

Jeremiah Dickerson dished out a team high five assists while Jake Hornick tied Hoffman for team high rebounding honors.
