LA MIRADA, CA – After driving through the sunshine and traffic for the past few days, the Colorado Christian trip through southern California has ended.
Looking to split their four-game road swing with a victory on Thursday, the Cougars fell short as Biola registered a 2-0 victory with a pair of late runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite the score remaining scoreless through the Cougars half of the sixth inning, Colorado Christian had opportunities. By that point they had seven total hits and left four men in scoring position on the base paths. They left six total runners on bases through their first six at-bats.
Despite those offensive frustrations, Connor McCollum was solid in his start on the bump. After 100 pitches in five inning, in which he struck out three and gave-up just two hits, McCollum was relieved from his second straight of the season.
However, Biola broke through in the sixth inning when Andy Van Antwerp lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan Gallegos for the game's first run. The home team put an insurance run on the scoreboard in the eighth inning when Ryan Cruz hit a 1-1 pitch over the right centerfield wall to push the Eagles lead to 2-0.
In the last three innings the Eagles bullpen kept the Colorado Christian bats silence as they allowed just one hit to help them secure the win.
COUGAR LEADERS: Blake Mattey had a team high three-hits in his four trips to the plate. Tommy Orr went 2-for-4 as the only other Colorado Christian player with a multi-hit game.
