GRAND JUNCTION, CO – Looking for their first three-game RMAC winning streak in four seasons, Colorado Christian ran into a strong shooting performance from Colorado Mesa.
The Mavericks were steady from the field throughout in posting a 90-64 win against Colorado Christian on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED: During the opening 20 minutes, the Mavericks took the lead from their first possession as they put together a solid shooting effort from the get-go. The home team hit 17 of their 30 first half field goal attempts (56.7 percent) as they built a lead as large as 21 points (44-23) before taking a 44-28 edge into the locker room.
Before the second frame's halfway point, Colorado Mesa put together a nearly unstoppable shooting display. The Mavericks made 12 of their first 14 field goal attempts, including all four of their shots from behind the arc, in upping their lead to 74-32.
Colorado Mesa could not keep their 80-plus percent shooting effort going the rest of the half but they completed the final frame by converting 19 of their 34 attempts (55.9 percent)
COUGAR LEADERS: Elijah Oliver had a team high 18 points as the junior made eight of his 20 field attempts while playing a team high 28 minutes.
Jadyn Michael went on an individual scoring spurt late in the second half as he scored 15 points in 13 minutes. He went 7-for-10 from the floor with four rebounds all in the second half.
