GUNNISON, CO – The final road game of the season took place Saturday evening, as Colorado Christian traveled to face off against Western Colorado.
In a close game throughout the Mountaineers pulled away in the end for a 59-55 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first quarter was a back and forth battle as each team continued to trade the lead, with no one gaining a clear advantage. The quarter ended with each team having put 13 points on the scoreboard.
The Cougars struggled in the second quarter, scoring only six points and allowing Western to build a six point lead going into the half.
Both teams came out firing in the third, Western scoring 20 points in the quarter and the Cougars scoring 17. The Cougars were able to cut the lead to as little as three points during the quarter but ultimately went into the final push down by nine.
Colorado Christian outscore Western Colorado by five in the final quarter but could never get the lead, cutting the lead to as little as two points with less than two minutes to go but couldn't finish and fell by a final of 59-55.
COUGAR LEADERS: Lourdes Gonzales had a 19 point effort which was her season high. Sam Nunez also had 13 points. Marie Tsoungui had six rebounds and seven assists to lead the Cougars.
