Cougars Hold on for Gripping Victory

 LAKEWOOD, CO – Colorado Christian looked to get back to their winning ways against Dixie State. A constantly strong game throughout, the Cougars didn't trail after the 4:38 mark in the first quarter.

Even holding the lead for most of the game, the game still came down the last shot. Dixie State was not able to get the shot off and the Cougars walked away with a 57-55 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars never trailed by more than three in the first and after falling behind early, the Cougars scored 14 of the 16 points in the quarter.

Dixie State scored 18 points in the second quarter, but the Cougars kept them at bay, leading into half, Colorado Christian held a slim one point lead.

Coming out the break, Colorado Christian scored 18 points in the third to keep them in the lead. The Cougars built an 11 point lead coming out of the half, scoring ten straight points to start the half.

Scoring back to back threes, the Cougars started the fourth with a bang, increasing the lead back to 11. Scoring 13 points, the Cougars scored just enough to hold off the Trailblazers at the buzzer for the 57-55 win.

COUGAR LEADERS: Sam Nunez led the team with 16 points, Brookelyn Hurlbut had 15 points and eight rebounds. Lourdes Gonzalez led the team with nine rebounds. Marie Tsoungui led the team with five rebounds.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Colorado Christian scored 21 points off turnovers.
  • Off 12 turnovers, the Cougars scored 18 fast break points.

UP NEXT: The final game of the season is next Friday, as Colorado Christian takes on Regis at home. It will be senior night and the game will start at 5:00 pm.
