OT Thriller For Cougars Over Fort Lewis

LAKEWOOD, CO – Colorado Christian and Fort Lewis went back to battle today for the second time this season.

After a close loss in the first game the Cougars were looking to get some revenge and win the second match up of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The game stayed close throughout and it started in the first quarter, after a slow start to the game with only ten points being scored in the first five minutes of the game both offenses warmed up and the scoring barrage started. Fort Lewis had a six point lead with under a minute remaining but a basket from Sacha Griffin brought it within four at the end of the quarter.

The Cougars outscored the Skyhawks in the second quarter with 17 points as they battled back from an eight point deficit to take a lead multiple times in the closing minutes of the half and keep the deficit at only three going into half.

The Cougars outscored Fort Lewis once again in the third with a 17 point quarter, continuing to keep the game close and waiting for a moment to strike and take the lead for good.

The fourth quarter was the closest of the game, as no team got a lead of more than six during the quarter, a flurry of scores in the end of regulation saw the Cougars take the lead with less than a minute remaining just to see the Skyhawks tie the game with nine seconds left to go.

Going into overtime Colorado Christian controlled the extra period, only trailing once, even with holding the lead for most of overtime the game came down to the final shot as Marie Tsoungui sank a rolling layup to win the game.

COUGAR LEADERS: Taylor Ferris led the team with 20 points which ties the season high for her. Brookelyn Hurlbut had nine rebounds and Tsoungui had four assists to lead the team.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Cougars had nine second chance points 11 fast break points.
  • 36 points in the paint, including 12 in the first quarter.
  • Score was tied 12 different times.

UP NEXT: The Cougars are back home tomorrow night, defending home court against the Grizzlies of Adams State University. Tip-off is at 5:00 pm.
