Cougars Downed by Westminster Shooting Clinic

LAKEWOOD, CO – In one of the highest scoring games of the season Westminster topped Colorado Christian 86-63.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Colorado Christian started hot in the first quarter, scoring the first five points of the game. Westminster responded back strong with separate runs of 10 and 19 points to separate from the Cougars.

Even with scoring 18 in the second quarter the Cougars could not keep pace with the Griffins and trailed by at least 20 for most of the second quarter.

The third quarter was more of the same as the Griffins couldn't miss and the Cougars were doing their best to keep up.

The Cougars outscored the Griffins in the final frame, with 22 points to help with the offensive cohesion but little else as Westminster had a comfortable lead.

COUGAR LEADERS: Brookelyn Hurlbut leads the Cougars with 18 points. Olivia Christy and Sam Nunez recorded 10 and nine points respectively. Hurlbut had six rebounds and Nunez had five. McClain Walker recorded three assists.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Freshman Riley Wade got her first collegiate start
  • Hurlbut led the team in scoring for the fifth consecutive game which is the longest streak since Jordan Baer in the 2018-19 season.
  • Colorado Christian scored 14 points off turnovers
  • Westminster recorded the highest shooting percentage in the RMAC this season shooting 59%.

UP NEXT: The Cougars will host UCCS next weekend, January 23, tip off at 5:00 p.m. There will still be no fans in attendance.
