DURANGO, CO – In the closest game of the season for Colorado Christian they fought Fort Lewis until the very end, falling 51-50.
HOW IT HAPPENED: A slow start for the Cougars meant they were going to have to battle back throughout the rest of the game. The Sky Hawks scored 17 points in the first quarter, the Cougars trailed behind only scoring nine points in the first.
A rebound in the second quarter as the Cougars outscored Fort Lewis in the second quarter 14 to 13 including cutting the lead to as few as four points with two minutes remaining before half. After some back and forth scoring at the end of the half the Sky Hawks went into the half leading by seven.
The Cougars came to life in the third quarter, scoring twice as many points as Fort Lewis in the quarter. Colorado Christian took the lead with just over four minutes left in the quarter and led by two heading into the fourth quarter.
A small lead set up for an exciting fourth quarter and the two teams did not disappoint. Three lead changes in the last quarter the teams battled until the very end with the Cougars getting a chance to take the final shot down by one with the clock at two seconds. The shot did not fall and the Sky Hawks escaped with the win.
COUGAR LEADERS: Brookelyn Hurlbut led the team once again in both points and rebounds as she recorded her second double-double of the season scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Mara Kemmer was second on the team with four rebounds and
Olivia Christy was second on the team with 10 points.
