CSU Pueblo Hands Cougars One Goal Setback in Road Finale

PUEBLO, CO – The final road game of the regular season gave the Colorado Christian men's soccer an opportunity to better secure a postseason berth. However, things just got more complicated moving into the final weekend of the season.

CSU Pueblo overcame an early one-goal deficit to post a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Colorado Christian is now 10-4 overall with a 4-4 mark in RMAC contests. With two games left to play throughout the RMAC, the Cougars are tied for fifth place with three other teams. The top six teams will make the league's postseason tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars found the back of the net first. In the 16th minute Gabe Roloff scored his fifth goal of the season when a free kick from Eli Donaho, from just inside the halfway line, got into the goalie box and Roloff's headed the ball into the back of the net. For Donaho, it was his fifth assist of the season.

The Thunderwolves proceeded to score three unanswered goals. Vinzent Zingel tied the score in the 34th minute with an assist from Carlos Espinoza. With just over five minutes left until halftime, Martin Cardenas gave the home team a 2-1 edge when he scored his first goal of the season.

After the break, CSU Pueblo upped their lead to 3-1 in the 63rd minute. Carlos Sanchis registered his fourth goal of the campaign with an assist from Nazar Deputat.

Liam Lakey brought the Cougars within one-goal in the 69th minute. He took a feed up the middle from Donaho then beat Thunderwolves goalie Garret Wild with a shot from 15 yards. Down the stretch, the Cougars had one more shot but Lakey's attempt from inside the box went off target.
