Mountain Lions Snatch Victory Over Cougars

LAKEWOOD, CO - The Cougars 4-0 loss today against UCCS leaves Colorado Christian with 10 points in the RMAC standings. This was the Cougars last regular season game for the year.

If Colorado Christian could have been able to win they would have guaranteed them a spot in the tournament.

However, their spot will be determined on the Black Hills and Fort Lewis upcoming game results. If Fort Lewis beats Western they will take the Cougars place in the tournament.

If Black Hills takes the victory over MSU Denver they will tie Colorado Christian in points. Black Hills would win the tie-breaker due to their victory against Colorado Christian earlier this season.

The best outcome to favor the Cougars to make it to the playoffs would be for Fort Lewis and Western to tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED - UCCS came out determined and offensively heavy. The Cougars held off the Mountain Lions until the 26th minute when Makayla Merlo headed the ball over the defense and goalkeeper off a free kick. The next goal came in the 34th minute from a strategically placed corner and headed in over the defensive line and goalkeeper, Ireland Van Dyke's hands.

Just a few minutes later in the 37th minute, Jadyn LeDoux received the ball, beat a few players, turned and blasted a ball from 25 yards out to the bottom right corner or the net.

Coming into the second half the Cougars were able to gain more possession and have more opportunities on goal. However, the Mountain Lions were able to finish a fourth goal in the 50th minute from a long ball from defender Zoe Sims to Tarah Patterson. Patterson took just one touch after sprinting by the Cougar's defense, and volleyed a drilled shot to the upper right hand corner of the goal.

This concludes the seniors Brook-lyn Schultz, Emie Peterson, Olivia Sanders, Celeste Ruelas, Ireland Van Dyke, Bridgette Johnson and Linnea Mosvold's last home game of their career.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • UCCS compiled 26 shots with 11 on goal as opposed to Colorado Christian's six shots with five on goal
  • The Mountain Lions had 64 percent of the possession throughout the game
  • Van Dyke made seven saves

UP NEXT - Any upcoming games will be determined on the results of other team's matches and the RMAC tournament schedule. More information to come.
