Mines Second Half Effort Propels Oredigger Win

GOLDEN, CO – The result wasn't the hoped for outcome but there was progress made.

Colorado School of Mines broke open a tight contest with a handful of second half goals in posting a 4-1 victory Wednesday evening.

The setback for the Cougars moves their record to 7-2 overall and 1-2 in RMAC contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Orediggers early minute pressure result in a fourth minute goal. Azad Illozer hit a shot from in close that cleared the goal line in the lower left side.

Colorado Christian responded in the 26th minute when Adrian Diez headed a ball into the back of the net from inside 10 yards. Diez's chance was created when Eli Donaho played a beautiful ball into the box from just inside the field's midpoint.

Moments later the Colorado School of Mines front line had a pair of shots on frame that were saved by Cougar goalie Michel Pinonocely then immediately Donaho blocked aside the second attempt. The teams went into halftime knotted at 1-1.

Less than two minutes into the second half Patrick Allen scored the game winning goal when he booted the ball from 25 yards out after Pinonocely punched out the ball off a corner kick.

With just over 10 minutes left Gabe Rodriguez scored an insurance goal when he scooted the ball past Pinonocely from inside the six-yard box.

In the closing minutes both Liam Lakey and Gabe Roloff each had attempts that beat Ordigger goalie Brian Doherty but went just wide and high respectively.

The closing goal came in the 89th minute when John Burnett found the back of the net.
