Yellow Jackets Claim Sweep as Cougars Start South Dakota Road Swing

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The second conference road weekend, didn't start as hoped for the Colorado Christian volleyball squad

Black Hills State played a solid match from start to finish as they recorded a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-20) victory on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In the first set the home team came out swinging. The Yellow Jacket registered a .400 hitting mark with 16 kills and trailed only briefly in the early stages.

The Black Hills State offense chilled in the second set as a tight frame ensued. The early points went back-and-forth before the Yellow Jackets built an 18-13 edge. However, Colorado Christian battled back and tied the stanza and 21-21 and 22-22. However, Black Hills State took a 2-0 lead in the match when they converted their second set point opportunity.

The third set had a similar scoring feel to the second. The teams stayed close until the later stages. Black Hills State began to build momentum towards their sweep just past the midway point of the frame. With the set tied at 15-15, the Yellow Jackets scored five of the next six points to take control. Down the stretch the Cougars pulled within three points but couldn't dwindle their deficit any lower.

COUGAR LEADERS: The Cougars offense was paced by Breanna Allen. The senior tallied a 14-kill evening to post her seventh consecutive match with double figured kills. Lilly Woods was second on the team with eight kills as she tallied a .467 hitting percentage.

Defensively Madelyn Long recorded nine digs. Izzy Jones directed the offense with 26 assists in addition to her team best three service aces.
