GUNNISON, CO - Colorado Christian battled it out against the Mountaineers but ended the match in a 3-0 loss.
The Cougars fought hard to make an impact on their chance for the RMAC tournament, Colorado Christian posted (21-25, 23-25, 22-25).
With two games left, the Cougars are 10-14 overall and 7-9 in conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED -
Mackenzie Close led the team in kills tallying eight,
Breanna Allen with six and
Abby Newell registering six.Â
Colorado Christian led in points in the first set with Close leading the team in points and serving an ace early on. In the first set the Mountaineers registered 15 kills and the Cougars tallied seven. Western had 37 attempts and the Cougars notched 33.Â
Early on in the second set Colorado Christian dominated in kills 6-2. Western quickly came back by attack errors from the Cougars and getting their grove by leading in kills. It was a tight match in the set 23-22 with Colorado Christian leading. A few attack errors and a kill by Western's Savanna Meyer gave the Mountaineers the victory in this set.Â
In the third and final set Colorado Christian came out fighting to get a fourth set. The Cougars offense gave them an 11-4 lead with kills by Allen and Newell. The strong lead by Colorado Christian forced Western into a timeout where they started dominating the set. A few errors and several skillful kills by the Mountaineers allowed them to win the final set.Â
