EDMOND, OK – The Cougars went into day two of opening weekend ready to get the offense right, and they did that going 1-1 and scoring seven and five runs. Dropping game one 11-7 but bouncing back and winning game two 5-2.

GAME ONE: University of Nebraska at Kearney jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after the second inning with two doubles and a single, the Cougars got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second with a Nebraska at Kearney error and a RBI groundout.

A home run in the third extended the lead for Nebraska at Kearney as they took a -2 lead but the Cougars stormed back in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single, triple and a Kacie Burger home run to top it off. The tie maintained until the fifth inning when Nebraska at Kearney scored four runs and took the lead back at 11-7 where it would stay for the rest of the game.

Both Steph Day and Burger had two hits and two RBI. Jennifer Romero started the game and Sydney Reamer was the pitcher of record after throwing in the fifth.

GAME TWO: The Cougars once again fell behind early as Northeastern State took an early 1-0 lead in the first with a RBI single. The RiverHawks added on in the third with a solo home run to take a two run lead. The Cougars would roar back with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a Piper Lujan home run to take the lead.

The Cougars extended the lead in the fifth and sixth innings as well with a RBI single in the fifth and a sac fly in the sixth to extend the lead to three runs which is all starting pitcher Julie Katz needed as she threw a complete game only allowing the two runs and striking out seven.
