DENVER – A pair of games didn't give the Cougars a good start to their weekend RMAC Pod.
Colorado Christian opened their Friday doubleheader with a set back to MSU Denver before dropping a mid-afternoon contest to CSU Pueblo.
Game One – MSU Denver 16, Colorado Christian 4
Multiple runs in each of the first three innings was enough for the host school. The Roadrunners scored five in the first inning, three in the second frame before closing the early scoring spurt with a two-run third stanza.
In the fourth inning the Cougars scored their first run when Jordan Medina hit his second homerun of the season. Down 11-1, Colorado Christian plated three runs in the eighth inning on a Wyatt Crenshaw two-run double and a Medina running scoring triple.
MSU Denver closed out the game's scoring with five runs in their portion of the eighth inning.
Medina and Luke Thompson each recorded a pair of hits for the Cougars.
Game Two – CSU Pueblo 10, Colorado Christian 3
The second game of the overcast afternoon started as a pitchers dual as each team's starting pitcher kept the scoreboard at zeros through three innings.
Colorado Christian broke the deadlock when Jordan Medina hit a sacrifice fly which scored Wyatt Crenshaw. Frankie Shearn III then scored when Caden Walton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Crenshaw then claimed a based loaded RBI on a walk to give the Cougars a 3-0 edge.
From that point CSU Pueblo slowly chipped away at their deficit. They scored their first run in their half of the fourth inning. The Thunderwolves took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning before breaking the game open with a run in the sixth frame and then a five-run eighth inning.
Walton had a team high two hits while Shearn reached base on three occasions.
UP NEXT: The Cougars still have two games left in the weekend as they play CSU Pueblo on Saturday at 4 p.m. before a Sunday afternoon contest against the host Roadrunners.
