GRAND JUNCTION, CO – A trip to the opposite side of the state yielded its fair share of solid results during the second outdoor meet of the season.
The Colorado Christian track and field teams set school records, hit NCAA provisional mark and captured a handful of top finishes at the CMU Maverick Open.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Sprints
Tyler Bradley set the school mark and ran the second fastest time at the facility as he placed second in a time of 10.77. He broke the Colorado Christian mark held by Matt Larsen (10.86) since the 2018 season. Bradley powered his way to a first place finish in the 200 meter dash as he ran a facility record time of 21.62.
Distance
The 5000 meter race highlighted the event for the squad as the trio of Josh Pierantoni, Ryder Searle and Trent Cochran all posted NCAA provisional times. Running his first race since the NCAA Indoor National Championships, Pierantoni ran a 14:29.86 to finish just 0.11 from winning the event. Searle notched a time of 14:36.16 in posting his second provisional time of the season after doing so two weeks ago in Pueblo. Cochran crossed the finish line in 14:41.93 in placing fourth. The top six finishers all set a track record.
During the 1500 meter, Cochran doubled his provisional pleasure with a time of 3:51.07. He was one of seven Colorado Christian runners to post a sub-four minute effort as Pierantoni, Searle, Alex Vance, Isaac Russo and Hudson Majeski also turned the trick.
Field Events
Jaxon Hinch placed third in the high jump with a top height of 1.95 meter (6 feet, 4 inches) as he gets closer to earning an NCAA provisional mark.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Sprints
Hannah George, once again, continued her assault on the school record books. During the 100 meter dash, the Minnesota native ran a 12.54 to place sixth and improve her school record by .23 seconds. George then improved on her school record on the 200 meter dash as she ran a 25.72 to improve her record by nearly a second.
Rachel Lucas put together a personal best effort in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.96 in posting a top 10 finish.
In the 800 meter run, Michelle Kuipers posted the women's first NCAA provisional mark of the young season as she placed first with a time of 2:12.44. She also set the school record in the process
Distance
Paige Tack, running her first 5000 meter race, placed sixth in the 20-person field as she clocked a time of 18:39.31.
The Cougars duo of Shannon King (11:33.58) and Christy Shuster (12:04.20) finished second and fourth respectively in the 3000 meter steeplechase in their first attempts in the event.
UP NEXT: The Cougars travel across the central plains to compete at the KT Woodman Open hosted by Wichita State next weekend.
