Cougars Split with Orediggers on Day One

GOLDEN, CO – The Cougars opened the weekend against longtime RMAC rival Colorado School of Mines with a double header. The Cougars split the opening day with two exciting fast paced games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME ONE:

The Orediggers got out to an early lead against the Cougars in the first game, scoring five runs in the first two innings. The Cougars got on the board in the top of the third inning with a double from Sydney Reamer, the Cougars scored three more times in the fourth inning thanks to two doubles and a fielder's choice and then it was Reamer once again who tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth inning.

The final frame was defined by errors as the Cougars took the lead on an error in the top of the inning, what goes around comes around though as the Orediggers tied the game and then promptly won the game 7-6 after an error by the Cougars.

GAME LEADERS: Reamer, Piper Lujan, and Caitlin McCarthy all had two hits for the Cougars. Reamer had two RBI for the Cougars. Stephanie Day had two walks.

In the circle Jennifer Romero started the game and pitched 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Samaria Roope pitched two innings with two strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Game two was all Cougars as they struck quick in the first inning with a double from Stephanie Day.

The Cougars scored three more times in the second inning with a single and triple. The Cougars put the game away in the third inning with a sac fly and then a grand slam from Sydney Reamer, winning 9-0 in five innings.  

COUGAR LEADERS: Reamer, Kenzie Middleton and Caitlin McCarthy all had two hits. Reamer had four RBI and Kenzie Middleton had two RBI.

In the circle Julie Katz pitched 4 innings and only allowed four hits. Sydney Rawlings pitched one inning and only allowed one hit.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • The Cougars scored nine runs with only three extra base hits.
  • The Cougars won game two without a single strikeout.
  • With the split the Cougars remained tied all time against the Orediggers.
