DURANGO, CO – The Cougars headed down to Fort Lewis as the season starts to wrap up for the Cougars. A battle throughout a late goal helped the Cougars gain a point in a tie with the Sky Hawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars went back and forth early with Fort Lewis as keeper Ireland VanDyke stayed busy early, making three saves in the first half. The Cougars had only one shot in the first half as the Sky Hawk defense stood strong.
To start the second half it was more of the same as the Fort Lewis offense was making VanDyke work hard in net with three more shots on goal and the Cougars offense was stymied by the back line of the Sky Hawks.
Fort Lewis scored in the 78th minute which brought the Cougars offense to life. Recording their first shot on goal minutes later thanks to Kinley Sanders. Abby Swanda followed that up with her first goal of the season which also tied the game for the Cougars.
The two overtime periods for the Cougars were filled with heavy defense as VanDyke made three more saves in the extra periods. Neither team could find the back of the net as the Cougars finished with their first draw of the season 1-1.
COUGAR LEADERS: Abby Swanda had four shots and three shots on goal for the Cougars as well as the Cougars only goal. Kinley Sanders and Brook-lyn Schultz also had shots on goal for the Cougars.
In net Ireland VanDyke had 11 saves for the Cougars and only allowed the one goal.
