Cougars Take Two Over MSU Denver with Walk off Win

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Cougars hosted MSU Denver in a midweek double header that was part of a reschedule from earlier in the season. The two teams are at the top of the RMAC and the two games reflected that as they were very close.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME ONE: The long ball was the story early in game one, with Kenzie Middleton opening the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. The game blew open in the third inning as the Roadrunners took the lead with a solo home run. Sydney Reamer responded in the bottom of the third with a solo home run of her own. A single and a walk scored two more run for the Cougars and gave them a two run lead.

The Roadrunners took the lead in the fifth inning with a two run home run. The Cougars responded in the fifth with a sac fly and a Piper Lujan two run double to give the Cougars a two run lead that was enough to hold off the Roadrunners and give the Cougars a 7-5 win.

Jennifer Romero started the game for the Cougars and pitched 4.1 innings and only allowed four hits. Sydney Rawlings pitched 2.2 innings in relief with two strike outs and recorded the win.

GAME TWO: The second game was just as close as the first game as both teams went back and forth on the scoreboard. The Roadrunners got on the board first with a solo home run. A sac fly by the Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the first inning.

After a throwing error in the top of the fourth that allowed the Roadrunners to take the lead Stephanie Day tied the game for the Cougars in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run that soared over the fence and got the Cougars back into the game.

After a double play in the top of the seventh, Kayla Middleton ended it for the Cougars with a walk-off single to center field to send the Cougars home winners.

COUGAR LEADERS: Kayla Middleton had two RBI for the Cougars. Kaelin Morkisch had a triple for the Cougars. Lujan and Day also had extra base hits for the Cougars.
