Cougars Ride Offense Over Adams

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Cougars were back at All Star park for the second time this week as Colorado Christian hosted Adams State University for the first day of two days of double headers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME ONE: The Cougars got on the board early with a two singles from Caitlin McCarthy and Samaria Roope which scored three runs and got the Cougars offense humming early.

The Cougars scored once in the third on a Sami Edwards sac fly, twice in the fourth on a Stephanie Day single and a Kayla Middleton double. Then a fielding error by the Grizzlies and a single by Piper Lujan gave the Cougars the 8-0 lead and the end of the game with the mercy rule.

COUGAR LEADERS: Sydney Reamer had three hits, Caitlin McCarthy had two RBI, Stephanie Day had two walks, and Kenzie Middleton had two stolen bases.

Jennifer Romero pitched all five innings with four strikeouts and only allowed two hits.

GAME TWO: The Cougars jumped on the Grizzlies once again early in the game with Stephanie Day doubling in the first inning two score two, Kayla Middleton followed that up with a two RBI double as well and Caitlin McCarthy hit a sac fly to score the third run of the inning.

The Cougars scored twice more in the second with a Kenzie Middleton single and a Piper Lujan single as the Cougars kept widening the lead. The Cougars scored six more in the third inning as the Grizzlies could not get them out. With three extra base hits including a two run home run from Kenzie Middleton the Cougars went into the fourth inning up 11-0.

The Grizzlies scored four runs in the top of the fifth off back to back home runs to pull them within seven but the Cougars responded quickly in the bottom of the sixth scoring off a throwing error by the Grizzlies.

COUGAR LEADERS: Sydney Reamer once again led the team with three hits, Kenzie Middleton had three RBI, Stephanie Day, Kayla Middleton, and Caitlin McCarthy all had two RBI. Sydney Reamer had two doubles.

Julie Katz threw five innings with three strikeouts, only allowing three earned runs and recording the win. Sydney Rawlings pitch one inning with one strike out.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Game one was the second shutout of the season for the Cougars
  • Eight of the nine Cougar hitters recorded at least one hit in the two games
