UCCS Sweeps Sunday Twinbill

COLORADO SPRINGS – The weekend that was meant to be played entirely one mile from Colorado Christian's campus was forced into changes.

The first day of the RMAC series with UCCS and the Cougars was hosted in Colorado Springs. Despite serving as the visiting team in each game of Sunday's doubleheader, the Mountain Lions still enjoyed their home field edge.

GAME ONE – UCCS 17, Colorado Christian 5

The Mountain Lions took the early lead and never looked back. UCCS scored four runs each in the first and second innings respectively en route to the victory.

UCCS scored at least two runs in five separate innings in Sunday's opener.

Colorado Christian scored a pair of runs in the eighth frame then plated three more runs on a Russel Cruz three-run homerun in the ninth stanza.

Mountain Lion starting pitcher Daniel Silva kept the Colorado Christian hitters off balance as he allowed just two hits in six innings while striking out four on 63 pitches.

GAME TWO – UCCS 9, Colorado Christian 1 (Seven Innings)

UCCS got the early runs before pulling away in the final innings to earn the afternoon sweep.

Matt McDermott and Jake Anderson put the Mountain Lions up 2-0 on the scoreboard in the first inning with a run scoring double and triple respectively. Anderson added an RBI double in the third to give UCCS a three-run cushion.

Jordan Medina gave the Cougars a solo homerun in the fourth inning but Colorado Christian couldn't get a runner scoring position until the seventh frame. Similar to Sunday's opener, the Mountain Lions scored runs in the late innings.

Medina fells a double short of the cycle as he went 3-for-4.

UP NEXT: The four-game series concludes on Monday at All Star Park with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
