LAKEWOOD, CO – The Cougars could not have battled and fought any harder than they did.
Despite being down to 10-men and down a goal, Colorado Christian forced overtime but fell 2-1 to Fort Lewis on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first half saw the teams play a physical game as there were 22 total fouls and a handful of referee stoppages. The game took a turn in the 44th minute when Colorado Christian was forced to play a man down after a red card.
In the 59th minute, Liam Lakey had a chance at a back heal goal but Fort Lewis goalie Peter Byrne made a great save from the inside five-yard chance.
Fort Lewis scored in the 67th minute when Matt Baldrdige drilled a laser from 25 yards out into the upper right hand corner. The Skyhawks looked to have increased their lead to 2-0 but the mid-half goal was negated because of a hand ball.
That 1-0 lead for the Skyhawks stood-up until Silas Hess scored his first collegiate goal after Lakey's initial shot was saved by Byrne in the 84th minute.
The Skyhawks got the game winner in the 98th minute. Alejandro Arribas scored his first goal of the campaign after he controlled a loose ball after a corner kick and deposited it into the back of the net.
