Mattey's School Record, Bullpen Pace Cougars Past Adams State

ALAMOSA, CO – Friday was that often seen windy day in the San Luis that can make for high scoring RMAC baseball games.

After a strong offensive start to the game, things leveled off as Colorado Christian wracked-up a 12-5 victory, and made some history in the process, against Adams State.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The game started ominously for fans of pitching as each team scored five runs in the first three innings.

During the first third of the contest, Colorado Christian's offense was aided by a two-run homerun by Blake Mattey in the first frame followed by a three-run shot from Sam Gallegos in the second inning.

Colorado Christian scored what proved to be the winning runs in the fourth inning when Luke Thompson's RBI double scored Manny Thompson then a Mattey base knock allowed Luke Thompson to cross the plate.

The Cougars continued to build insurance. In the sixth stanza Mattey added another RBI base knock which scored Manny Thompson to increase their lead to 8-5. Colorado Christian closed out the game with two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the victory.

COUGAR LEADERS: Mattey fell a triple short of the cycle as he tied a school record with a five-hit contest. He is just the third player in school history (Hunter Hays, Luke Bote were the others) with a five-hit contest. Moreover, his five RBI contest is tied for third in school history.

Manny Thompson, Luke Thompson and Wyatt Crenshaw each pieced together two-hit afternoons with both Manny and Luke scoring three times.
