Cougars Fall in Series Finale vs. MSU Denver

DENVER – Looking to salvage the final game of a four-game RMAC baseball set, the Cougars fell victim to a strong MSU Denver offensive attack.

The Roadrunners closed out the series with a 10-4 win on Saturday morning. The game was relocated to MSU Denver's homesite to accommodate potential afternoon thunderstorms.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite registering just one hit in the first three innings, MSU Denver held a 1-0 lead after scoring on a wild pitch in the third frame.

The Roadrunners increased their lead with a three-run fifth stanza with a Brian Ralston two-run homerun and a throwing error which allowed Jake Barber to cross the plate. Colin Stone hit a run scoring single in the sixth inning to increase MSU Denver's lead to 5-0.

Colorado Christian got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning when Jordan Medina hit a two-run, one-out homerun to trim their deficit to 5-2. Caden Walton added an RBI double as the Cougars found themselves down just 5-3 heading into the final frame.

However, the Roadrunners, who served as the visitors, scored five times in the ninth inning highlighted by a Jake Williams three-run homerun to pad their lead. Wyatt Crenshaw hit a solo homerun in the last of the ninth frame to close out the scoring.

COUGAR LEADERS: Three different players had a pair of base knocks led by Medina's homerun and double. Walton also had two hits as did Crenshaw.

On the mound Devin Sutorius went five innings with three strikeouts and three hits allowed in his start.

UP NEXT: The Cougars travel to CSU Pueblo for a critical single game on Wednesday to complete their four-game series from two weeks ago.
