LAKEWOOD, CO - It only took one goal to put the 2021 version of the Colorado Christian soccer team in the record books.
With the Cougars 1-0 win against South Dakota Mines on Friday afternoon, Colorado Christian starts the season with five straight wins for the first time in program history.
Moreover, Colorado Christian has now won six straight dating back to last season. Also never done before in school history. One more bit of winning history was made as the Cougars have now won seven of their last eight games. Also, a first for the program.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Each team had a handful of chances to score in the first half but neither team found the back of the net as they went into the locker room tied at zeros. Each team took five shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Colorado Christian continued their first half offensive press and finally broke through in the 64th minutes.
Liam Lakey scored his second goal of the season when he control a ball from
Tiago Pinto from about 25 yards out. After a few dribbles he took a shot from the left side that snuck into the far side of the net for the game's only goal.
The tenor of the contest changed but the one constant was the Cougars stout defense. Colorado Christian's back line posted their first clean sheet of the season. South Dakota Mines had the game's last chance but a free kick into the box sailed out of bounds before a Hardrocker could get a shot off.
