Cougars Lose at Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, CO- The Colorado Christian women's basketball team returned to action after nearly a month off due to postponed games. The Cougars fought hard, but fell to a talented Colorado Mesa team 78-58. 

HOW IT HAPPENED- Agnes Paul got her team going with a quick pair of jumpers to put the Cougars ahead early. Haley Hanson then drilled a three to put Colorado Christian ahead 7-5. Hanson then tied the game up at 10 with another shot from deep as the two teams battled back and forth. The Mavericks offense got going to close the first quarter to take a 10 point lead into the second. 

Sophia Karasinski converted a layup and Hanson nailed her third three-pointer of the night to start the second quarter. Mia Guest joined the three-point party with 2:38 left in the half, but the Colorado Mesa offense continued to pull away to take a 22 point lead to the break. 

Sydney Daniels got the second half started with a jumper and Jordyn Bown converted a three-point play to get the offense going in the third. Paul continued a strong night with another layup, but the Mavericks took a 21 point lead to the final frame. 

Christen Curry hit a jumper to start the scoring in the fourth for the Cougars, and Karasinski hit a pair of free throws to continue the points. Grace Field scored the final points for her team, but the offense proved too much for the Mavericks as they claimed a 78-58 victory.

COUGARS LEADERS:
Agnes Paul led the team in scoring with 13 points, while Grace Field led in rebounding with 5. Sophia Karasinski dished out three assists to pace the Cougars. 

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Cougars outpaced the Mavericks in points off the bench 16-7

  • The two teams were even with 24 points in the paint apiece

  • The score was tied three times with three lead changes as well


UP NEXT- The Cougars will head to Adams State on January 18 at 5 p.m. to make up their contest originally scheduled for January 1.
