ALAMOSA, CO- Colorado Christian women's basketball headed to Adams State Tuesday to make up a game originally scheduled for January 1. The Cougars could not catch the Grizzlies in a 77-51 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The first quarter was a defensive struggle for both teams, and not much offense was generated. Agnes Paul scored the first points for her team with a pair of free throws, and Lourdes Gonzalez hit a jumper to bring the Cougars within three. Several more free throws made the score 12-7 headed to the second quarter.
The Grizzlies started to stretch the lead in the second quarter thanks in large part to the three-point shooting of Stephanie Ruiz, who went a perfect 7-7 from deep on the night. Haley Hanson drilled a three to bring the score closer as she began a stellar night from beyond the arc. Sophia Karasinski got a layup and Hanson hit another three-pointer, but the Cougars fell behind 41-17 at the break.
Christen Curry hit a jumper to start the second half, but Ruiz responded with another three. Hanson came back with a three of her own, part of five three-pointers on the night from Hanson. Grace Field then converted a three-point play, and Gonzalez got a layup to go to cut into the deficit. A trio of free throws to close the quarter made it 59-40 heading to the final frame.
Hanson put in back-to-back shots from deep, and India Cole drilled a three of her own. Curry hit a jumper late, but ultimately the hot shooting from the Grizzlies gave them the 77-51 victory.
