LAS VEGAS, NM- The Cougars women's basketball team continued a week full of games on Friday, traveling to take on New Mexico Highlands. Colorado Christian fell behind early and could never quite recover in a 67-53 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Cougars got off to a bit of a slow start, falling behind by seven early. However, Sydney Daniels and Grace Field quickly cut into the deficit with a pair of layups. Mia Guest then drilled a three-pointer, but the Cowgirls offense hit several from deep to take a 22-14 lead to the second quarter.
Lourdes Gonzalez got off to a strong start in the second with a three-point play to cut into the Cowgirls' lead. New Mexico Highlands went on a run in the second half of the quarter, and a Haley Hanson jumper took the Cougars to the break trailing 44-30.
Agnes Paul got her team's scoring started in the second half with a layup, and Guest followed with another three. Field continued a stellar game with another layup, and a Gonzalez layup took the game to the final frame with the Cowgirls leading 58-40.
Hanson continued her hot shooting from beyond the arc to kick off the final quarter, and Jordyn Brown converted a layup in transition for her team. Tessa Hauser hit a pair of free throws, and Christen Curry followed with a layup, but the New Mexico Highlands offense was ultimately too strong as they took a 76-55 win.
COUGARS LEADERS:
Lourdes Gonzalez led the Cougars with nine points and nine rebounds, while Haley Hanson and Gonzalez dished out three assists apiece.
