COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Colorado Christian women's basketball team took on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on the road Saturday. The Cougars were in the game until the final horn, but were barely edged by the Mountain Lions 68-65.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Sydney Daniels scored the first basket of the game, and Grace Field began a strong night with a layup. Lourdes Gonzalez hit a pair of free throws and a jumper as the Cougars trailed 17-10 heading to the second.
Agnes Paul started strong with a jumper, and Sophia Karasinski cut into the lead with two free throws. Christen Curry and Jordyn Brown then nailed jumpers, and a basket from Sydney Daniels made the lead just three for the Mountain Lions. Brown then drilled a three and a Field jumper took the Cougars to the half leading 27-25.
Curry and Karasinski came out firing to start the half with back-to-back jumpers. UCCS battled back, and the score stood tied with five minutes left in the quarter. A pair of late free throws from Field made the score 49-46 Mountain Lions, and set up what would be a very exciting final frame.
Field quickly got to work with a layup, and a jumper from Daniels made the deficit just one. The two teams traded baskets, with the Cougars responding each time the Mountain Lions pulled ahead by three. A Jordyn Brown free throw made it a two point game with 3:07 remaining.
The score stood at 60-59 UCCS with a minute remaining. The Mountain Lions appeared to be in the clear with a six point lead with 33 seconds remaining, but a three from Brown cut that lead in half. Hanson then nailed a shot from deep to cut the lead to one with 11 seconds left. After a pair of free throws, the Cougars had one last look but could not get a clean look from deep as UCCS got the narrow victory 68-65.
COUGARS LEADERS:
Jordyn Brown paced the Cougars with 14 points and Grace Field recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Daniels and Brown each dished out five assists.
