The Cougars hit the road and made the quick crosstown commute to square off against conference opponent Regis University. The bright lights were out and both defenses and Keepers were shining bright throughout the game as it was a battle to see who was going to blink first. A late second half goal scored by Regis was matched late by the Cougs to secure a 1-1 draw on the night.
Â
Both teams rallied and had their chances in the first half of the game, but neither was able to score so it was a 0-0 tie at the break. Regis outshot CCU by an 11-5 mark, while five of those shots were on goal which were saved by the CCU Keeper Max Collinwood. The Cougars had three of their shots land on target, will all being denied by the Rangers Goalie. It was a clean first half as neither team received any cards.
Â
The second half picked up right where the first half ended, both defensives still dictating the pace of the game. Regis was the first to breakthrough the barrier as they secured a ball in the box just short of the 67
th minute and were able to shoot it past Collingwood to take the 1-0 lead.
Â
Despite the deficit, the Cougars never had their heads down and continued to battle knowing that just one chance was all they needed to get back into it. That chance finally came just in time with just over a minute left in the game.
Gabe Roloff gained possession and ran down the sidelines and into the Rangers zone. Just before reaching the end line, he sent a perfect pass sailing towards the box where his brother
Grant Roloff was waiting and promptly headed it past the Regis Keeper and into the back of the net to tie the game up 1-1. Head coach
Brad Camp spoke about the goal after the game and said, "For Gabe to be able to throw that pass in there and give Grant one opportunity at it was amazing. We were all really excited for Grant to get his first goal of the year there."
Â
The final moments of the clock ticked away and the game eventually ended in a 1-1 tie which improves the Colorado Christian record on the year to 6-4-3 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. Coach Camp continued to talk about his teams' performance in the thrilling game- saying, "Amazing showing from the team tonight. We were really disappointed with last week as we thought our energy and output during that game could have easily resulted in a tie or even a win, so the boys showed amazing effort throughout the week and gave another great performance tonight, so I am thrilled that we were able to net the tying goal late, fight to the end and eventually earn the tie."
Â
Colorado Christian will be back on the road for their next game as they continue conference play and will make the trip to Rapid City, SD to take on South Dakota Mines on Sunday October 9
th. Kickoff for that game is set for 11AM MST.
