CHADRON, NE- The Cougars headed to Nebraska on Saturday to take on the Chadron State Eagles. In a gritty fight, CCU claimed the victory in four sets as they now head home on a high note. ]
HOW IT HAPPENED- Colorado Christian jumped ahead early as Libby Goodman recorded an ace as her squad took an 8-3 advantage. Alli Douglass and Lilly Woods put down kills to stretch the lead to 15-7, and it later grew to 21-13 on another Douglass kill. Izzy Jones closed things with a kill to win the set 25-16.
The Eagles were much more game in set two, as a long run midway through the set saw Chadron State take a 15-12 lead. The Cougars battled back, and a late kill from Renee Phillips made it 23 apiece. However, the hosts picked up the last two points for a 25-23 set win.
Set three was the best of the night as the two teams battled back and forth throughout. A Douglass kill had CCU up 7-4 early, but an Eagles rally had it tied at 11 later in the set. A Megan Piton ace had the Cougars up 23-21, but a Chadron State run gave them a set point at 24-23. Jones saved the set from going the way of the hosts with a kill, and Phillips saved yet another with a kill to tie it at 25. Phillips saved another at 26-25 and Douglass kept her team in it at 27-26 with a kill. All in all the Cougars saved five set points before they turned the tide. A Woods kill made it 28 apiece, and she proceeded to put down two more kills to lead her team to the 30-28 set win in thrilling fashion.
Colorado Christian snagged an early 4-0 lead in set four on kills from Goodman and Woods. They continued to roll as they took a 21-14 lead to nearly seal things. Just like the prior set, it was Woods who put it away, recording consecutive kills to give her team victory in four sets with a 25-18 set win.
