LUBBOCK, TX- Colorado Christian opened their season on the road at Lubbock Christian to get their campaign underway. The Lady Chaps took the victory by a final of 85-64 despite a tough fight from CCU.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Cougars started out fast, as Agnes Paul and Regan LoConte pulled their team out to a 7-0 lead. Maggie Hutka got in on the action with a three-pointer, and Dasiya Jones stretched the lead to 12-5 with a basket. Another jumper from Hutka made it 16-13, but LCU later tied it at 20 as the teams headed to the second quarter.
The Lady Chaps began to build a lead in the second quarter, but India Cole closed the gap to 35-26 with a jumper. The two teams battled back and forth as LCU took a 47-33 to halftime in Lubbock.
Makenna Bodette drilled a three, and Mykaela Moore put in consecutive baskets for her team. Moore continued with a few more buckets and Aleksandra Clayton connected from beyond the arc. As the fourth quarter hit, Lubbock Christian held a 73-51 advantage.
Christen Curry made a layup, and Victoria Perez closed the scoring with a three-pointer, but in the end CCU fell by a score of 85-64.
COUGARS LEADERS:
Mykaela Moore led the offense with 11 points while Agnes Paul secured 11 rebounds to lead her team in that category. Maggie Hutka and Makenna Bodette each had a pair of assists on the night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CCU had 28 points in the paint while LCU had 32
- The Cougars led in second chance points 14-10
- Colorado Christian had five fast break points
