Colorado Christian Goes 1-1 on Day Two in Texas

LUBBOCK, TX- The Cougars continued play at the Lubbock Sports College Invitational with two more contests on Saturday. The first came against the defending national champions and current #4 ranked team in division II West Texas A&M. The Lady Buffs used an efficient pitching performance and timely hitting to claim an 8-1 victory. The Cougars took game two over Eastern New Mexico 9-1 via run rule with an impressive performance.

GAME ONE
Colorado Christian began the day against a very strong team fresh off a national title last year. The Lady Buffs tacked on a run in the first and second inning before the Cougars offense responded. Piper Lujan picked up an RBI with a single to score Kenzie Middleton in the second, but that was the closest they would get. The two teams battled through several scoreless innings until West Texas A&M pulled away in the sixth with two more runs, followed by two more in the seventh. The Cougars could not get any more runners across as the Lady Buffs picked up the 8-1 win.

GAME TWO
The Cougars looked to get their second win of the season against Eastern New Mexico after a 13-9 victory last weekend. Colorado Christian had to battle for the victory in their last meeting, but Saturday was much more straightforward. The Cougars blew the game open early with a five run second inning. Emily Arp started the scoring, coming across the plate on an error. Miki Berg then picked up an RBI groundout to score Kayla Middleton. Kaelin Morkisch then tripled to score Logan Menzies, and Kenzie Middleton blasted a two-run shot to give her team firm control of the game. The Greyhounds scored a run in the third, but the Cougars made sure to tack on several more in the fourth. The game came to a close in the bottom of the fifth as a Kenzie Middleton triple to score Morkisch gave her team the 9-1 lead and the victory by run rule.

UP NEXT- The Cougars will conclude play in Texas against University of Nebraska at Kearney on February 13 at 9 a.m (CST).
