Cougars Finish Strong with Win on Final Day in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX- Colorado Christian closed play in Texas on Sunday with a matchup against University of Nebraska at Kearney. The Cougars picked up a 4-2 victory with clutch late-game hitting and strong pitching.

HOW IT HAPPENED- From the start Abrie Castillo and the Lopers pitching were efficient and locked in, allowing very few runs. Nebraska Kearney put up the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second. Kenzie Middleton responded with a solo shot of her own in the fourth inning to tie things up at one.

The pitching locked down any offense until the top of the seventh. The Cougars bats came to life, starting with a solo blast from Samaria Roope to put her team on top. Following a Kayla Middleton double, Miki Berg brought her home with another double. Then Taylor Olsen singled to score Berg as Colorado Christian took a 4-1 lead.

A late homer from the Lopers did not affect the outcome as the Cougars took the victory by a score of 4-2. Abrie Castillo was excellent, pitching six innings with just two earned runs given up. Alexis Hamilton picked up the save with the final three outs in the seventh.

UP NEXT- Colorado Christian will now head to Tucson for five games, starting on February 18 against Western New Mexico University at 10 a.m. The Cougars played the Mustangs earlier this season, picking up an 11-3 win.
