TUCSON, AZ- Colorado Christian headed to Tucson on Friday to begin a three- day invitational. The Cougars fell to Western New Mexico 5-3 in game one, but bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Azusa Pacific in the second contest of the day.
GAME ONE
Abrie Castillo took the mound for the Cougars against the Mustangs, and the game stood scoreless through the first four innings. The Mustangs broke through in the top of the fifth with a two RBI double and two-run homer to take a 4-0 lead. Kenzie Middleton ripped a two-run homer in the fifth to close the gap to two for her team. Western New Mexico tacked on one more run in the sixth, and a late Cougars run in the seventh was not enough as they fell 5-3.
GAME TWO
The second contest of the day came against the Cougars from Azusa Pacific University. Colorado Christian got right to work in the top of the first, starting with a Sami Edwards double and Taylor Olsen single to score Edwards. Olsen reached second on the throw, and Sydney Reamer brought her home with a single. Azusa pushed a run across in the third, but from there a pitchers duel ensued. Alexis Hamilton delivered another gem, allowing just one run and five hits to pick up her third win of the season as the Cougars from Colorado picked up the 2-1 victory.
UP NEXT- Colorado Christian will continue play with two contests on February 19, starting with a matchup against Simon Fraser from British Columbia, Canada at 2 p.m.
