Cougars Win Nailbiter Against Fort Lewis

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars returned home on Monday for a matchup against the Skyhawks from Fort Lewis College. In a thrilling back and forth affair, Colorado Christian picked up a 65-63 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED- The Cougars came out firing to start the game, scoring early and often. Lourdes Gonzalez scored just 12 seconds into the game with a jumper, and Grace Field kept it going with a layup. Another Gonzalez jumper and an Agnes Paul layup put Colorado Christian up 9-0 to start. The Cougars led by seven late in the quarter but a last second three from the Skyhawks made the score 22-18 heading to the second.

Sydney Daniels quickly hit a jumper to begin the quarter, and Jordyn Brown drilled a three-pointer to make the lead five. Fort Lewis charged back to take the lead by four, but a Mia Guest three and Daniels jumper put the Cougars in front 36-33 heading to the break.

The Skyhawks again clawed their way back to a four point lead, but Daniels responded with a jumper to knot the score at 43. Christen Curry hit a jumper, then a long stretch of no points from both teams ensued. A pair of late free throws from Brown left the score tied at 47 heading to the final frame.

Guest hit a big three to push her team ahead, and Agnes Paul made the lead six with a layup. Gonzalez hit a jumper as the lead stretched to ten for the Cougars. Once again Fort Lewis refused to go down without a fight, as they drew level with 3:12 remaining. However, the Cougars did not waver, hitting clutch shots down the stretch to hold on for the 65-63 win.

Sydney Daniels paced her team with 16 points while Lourdes Gonzalez and Agnes Paul pulled down nine rebounds each to lead the Cougars. Gonzalez dished out six assists to lead her team.
