Cougars Ride Huge First Quarter to Victory in Final Home Game

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian hosted their final game of the season on Saturday against New Mexico Highlands. The Cougars rode a first quarter offensive explosion to a 74-58 victory over the Cowgirls.

HOW IT HAPPENED- It was apparent from the very start that the Cougars were the more aggressive team as they came out firing with consecutive threes from Mia Guest. Grace Field kept it going with a layup and Lourdes Gonzalez hit a layup to stretch the lead to 15-4. Guest drilled her third three-pointer of the quarter and a Christen Curry layup put her team up big 22-6. Tessa Hauser put in a late layup to make it 26-6 heading to the second.

Sophia Karasinksi stretched the lead all the way to 21 with a layup as Colorado Christian feasted on rebound after rebound to get more looks on offense. The offense slowed down a bit in the second quarter, but the Cougars took a 37-24 lead into the break.

Back-to-back threes from the Cowgirls made the gap just nine, but that was as close as it would get. Jordyn Brown responded with a jumper, and Gonzalez and Field made sure the lead grew even more with several layups and jumpers. Brown drilled a three as the lead grew back to 16, and Karasinski made it 20 with a layup. Guest hit yet another three to take her team to the final quarter leading 57-37.

Another strong start to the quarter from New Mexico Highlands cut the lead to 11, but the COugars time and time again showed composure and never let the Cowgirls get closer. Three trips to the line yielded six straight points, and Sydney Daniels buried the dagger from deep as Colorado Christian took the 74-58 win in their final home contest of the season.

COUGARS LEADERS:
Mia Guest led her team with 12 points, all from beyond the arc. Lourdes Gonzalez and Agnes  Paul pulled down 13 and 11 rebounds respectively, and Jordyn Brown, Grace Field and Sydney Daniels each dished out four assists.
