SPEARFISH, S.D.- Colorado Christian traveled to South Dakota to take on Black Hills State on Friday. The Cougars battled valiantly but ultimately fell to the Yellowjackets 72-63.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Jordyn Brown began the game on a tear, scoring the Cougars first five points with several free throws and a three. Lourdes Gonzalez then got a layup to go, and Mia Guest drilled a jumper to push the lead to 9-5. Sophia Karasinski hit consecutive jumpers to put her team back on top by two. The quarter closed with the score tied at 15.Â
Black Hills came out firing with two quick threes to start the second quarter, but Agnes Paul and Tessa Hauser brought the Cougars back with a layup and jumper. The two teams battled back and forth as the Yellowjackets went to the break up 34-30.Â
Grace Field cut the lead to two with a quick layup, and Gonzalez tied it up with a jumper. Black Hills began to connect from deep, and went on a run to close the quarter with a 59-46 lead.
Gonzalez converted a three-point play to bring her team closer, but the Yellowjackets did not let their opponent much closer throughout the final frame, ultimately picking up the 72-63 victory.Â
COUGARS LEADERS:
Sophia Karasinski led her team with 15 points, and Agnes Paul snagged seven rebounds. Sydney Daniels dished out three assists to pace her squad.
