Rogers State Deals Defeat

CLAREMORE, OK - The Cougars fought but were unable to overcome the Hillcats, losing the last two games of the series against Rogers State on Sunday afternoon. 


GAME ONE - RSU was the first to get on the board, scoring 3 runs in the first two innings. Colorado Christian however scored a pair of runs in the third to make the score 3-2. Jeff Sanchez singled to center field, then made it to third after Aaron Morgan hit a double down the left line. A sac-fly from Eli Ludwig brought home Sanchez for the first run. Morgan then made it across the plate thanks to a single from Jordan Medina. The Hillcats tacked on one more to close out the third inning, making the score going into the fourth in their favor, 4-2. 

The Cougars took the lead in the fourth, scoring 5 runs on 5 hits. Caden Walton, Luke Thompson, and Zach Medina all walked to load the bases. Jeff Sanchez was then hit by pitch which scored Walton. Aaron Morgan was up next and reached on a fielders choice, which brought home Thompson. Eli Ludwig was then also walked to bring home Zach Medina. The fifth player to walk in the inning was Wyatt Crenshaw, who got on base and Sanchez scored. The final run for CCU came when Morgan scored off of a double play, putting the Cougars up 7-5. 

Rogers State added 1 run in the bottom of the inning, then scored 6 in the fifth to take the game. Colorado Christian was unable to score again, and lost with a final score of 12-7. 

GAME TWO - Despite going nine innings compared to the seven innings in the game prior, the last game of the day was just a few minutes shorter in duration than game one. 

The Hillcats held CCU and were up 4-0 going into the seventh inning. A single run for the Cougars came after Luke Thompson singled, advanced to second thanks to an Andrew Lloyd single, then the two advanced off a sac bunt from Caden Walton, then Saxton Sorenson grounded out to bring home Thompson. 

RSU scored five more in the bottom of the seventh to increase their lead to 7. The final two runs for Colorado Christian came in the top of the eighth, when Eli Ludwig walked, then made it to second after Wyatt Crenshaw singled. Jordan Medina hit a double to left field to bring home Ludwig, then Luke Thompson singled to bring home Crenshaw for the final CCU run. Rogers State took the final game 9-3. 

UP NEXT - The Cougars will have a quick turnaround as they have their home opener on Thursday, February 24th, to begin a four-game series against Montana State Billings. CCU will then begin their conference campaign the following weekend as they head to Las Vegas, New Mexico, to face New Mexico Highlands.
