Cougars Swept by Yellowjackets

Colorado Christian began their first home series of the year as they took on Montana State University of Billings on Saturday afternoon. It was a tough day on the diamond for the Cougars as they lost both games to the Yellowjackets.

Game 1:
It was a rough start for CCU in the opening game of the doubleheader. The leadoff hitter got MSUB started with a bang as he hit a homerun to give them the early lead. After the second batter reached with a single, the third batter once again tagged CCU starter Tyler Fischer for another homerun to extend their lead.

After the first inning, Fischer settled in nicely and turned in a good start for the Cougars as he threw seven innings allowing six hits, three runs and struck out 12 in the game. CCU ran into a tough matchup as MSUB starter Dylan Barkley was in control on the mound throughout the game. Barkley took a no-hitter into the eighth inning before Andrew Lloyd broke it up with a single. The Yellowjackets added an insurance run in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth and went on to win the game 6-0.

Game 2:
Cameron Speath got the start in game two for the Cougs, but it was once again a tough start as the Yellowjackets plated four runs in the top of the first highlighted by a three-run homerun. However, CCU answered in the bottom half of the inning as they scored four runs of their own. MSUB regained the lead in the third inning as they scored four more runs to take an 8-4 lead. MSUB stretched their lead to five in the top of the fifth, but CCU answered quickly in the bottom half. Gabe Ramos blasted a three-run homer to left field which trimmed the lead down to just two. That was as close as the Cougs would get as Montana State added five more runs in the sixth inning and went on to win by a final score of 14-7.

The four-game series concludes on Sunday afternoon beginning at 11:30am. Due to the weather and the games being pushed back a day, the two games will be played in Pueblo, CO.
