Cougars Edged in Overtime by Roadrunners

DENVER, CO- The Cougars made the short trip to Denver to take on the Roadrunners from Metro State. In a rematch from earlier this season when Colorado Christian won at home, the Roadrunners edged the Cougars in a hard-fought overtime win 86-78.

HOW IT HAPPENED- The offense got going early with a Christen Curry jumper and a Grace Field layup. Jordyn Brown continued her hot shooting with a jumper and three pointer as the game stood tied at 11. The Cougars pulled ahead with a flurry of points from Sydney Daniels, Sophia Karasinski and Mia Guest. Heading to the second the score was all even at 18 apiece.

Brown quickly hit a jumper and three-pointer to get the offense going again in the second quarter, but the Roadrunners began to pull away with several runs for an 11 point lead. A Lourdes Gonzalez jumper and Karasinski three cut the lead to five, but a late layup gave Metro a 40-31 halftime lead.

Karasinski continued her hot shooting from beyond the arc in the third quarter, drilling several threes to make the deficit just three. India Cole hit a late layup to make the score 56-49 Roadrunners headed to the final frame.

Two fastbreak layups from Brown and another Karasinski three tied the game up quickly to begin the fourth. Brown then connected from deep later in the quarter to pull within three, and she sent the game to overtime with a three-pointer with 13 seconds left to tie it at 74.

The Roadrunners jumped ahead early with a three and a pair of free throws, and they locked down the Cougars, allowing just four points in the overtime period to claim an 86-78 victory.
