Cougars Downed by Regis in Extra Innings

After being pushed back a day due to weather, the Cougars began their series with Regis on Saturday afternoon. The Cougs battled back and tied the game in the ninth inning, but extra innings favored Regis as the Rangers scored five in the 11th inning to take the series opener by a final score of 13-8. The momentum shifted back and forth in the game as Regis scored eight straight runs to open the game in the early innings, followed by CCU battling back to score eight straight runs to send the game into extra innings. One last five run surge by Regis finished off the scoring in the game.

After both sides were held scoreless in the first inning, Regis opened the scoring in their half of the second inning as they tallied a single run to take the early 1-0 lead. Regis added onto their lead in the middle innings as they scored three runs in the fourth inning, and two more runs in both the fifth and sixth to go up 8-0.

Colorado Christian began their comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning beginning with back-to-back singles to begin the inning from Caden Walton and Boedy Flores. After Frankie Shearn singled to load the bases, Wyatt Crenshaw knocked in the first run with an RBI groundout scoring Walton. Jordan Medina followed with a single through the left side to score Flores.

The Cougars continued their comeback in the seventh inning. Luke Thompson started the inning off with a sharp single up the middle. He was followed by Andrew Lloyd who ripped a single of his own. Caden Walton singled through the left side of the infield which scored Luke Thompson. Boedy Flores kept the rally going as he collected an RBI single as well which scored Andrew Lloyd. Frankie Shearn added an RBI as well followed by back-to-back RBI singles from Eli Ludwig and Wyatt Crenshaw which got the Cougars to within one as the score was 8-7 heading into the eighth inning.

Harrison Nation held the Rangers scoreless in the eighth and ninth inning to send the game into the bottom of the ninth still trailing by just one run. After two quick outs it all came down to Eli Ludwig. With two outs and a full count Ludwig delivered with the biggest hit of the game as he crushed a pitch over the right center field fence to tie the game 8-8.

Colorado Christian was unable to overcome Regis and secure the victory as Regis scored five in the 11th inning to secure the 13-8 win over CCU.

CCU now has a record of 5-12 overall, and 3-2 in conference play. Both teams will be back on the field on Sunday to face off in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12PM MST.
