The Cougars took to the field on Monday afternoon at All Star Park to take on Regis University in the final game of the four-game series between the two. Regis secured the victory thanks to a big second inning as the final score was 6-2.
Â
After retiring the side in order in the first inning, CCU starter
Cameron Spaeth ran into trouble in the Rangers second inning. Regis pounded out five runs on six hits to take the early 5-0 lead. The Cougs got onto the board in the bottom of the third inning to cut into the Regis lead.
Sawyer Shepherd had a great at bat and was able to draw a walk to reach first. Shepherd came around to score when
Boedy Flores followed him with an RBI triple. Frankie Shearn earned an RBI as he hit a sacrifice fly to score Flores to make the score 5-2 heading into the fourth inning.
Â
Harrison Nation relieved Spaeth in the fifth inning and was phenomenal on the mound as he cooled down the Regis bats and kept the Cougars within striking distance. Nation finished the game out of the bullpen as he threw five innings allowing just three hits and one unearned run. Unfortunately, CCU was unable to claw back and overcome the early deficit to eventually fall by a final score of 6-2.
Â
Boedy Flores had a strong game on the day as he finished 2-3 with a triple, one run and one RBI. The loss by Colorado Christian gave the series victory to Regis as the Cougs got one win in the four-game set.
Â
Colorado Christian now has an overall record of 6-14 and are 4-4 in conference play. Next up for CCU will be a quick road series against Fort Hays State. The two-game series will be played as a doubleheader on Tuesday March 22 at Larks Park in Hays,KS. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12PM MST
