Colorado Christian continued their series against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday with a doubleheader. The Cougars continued to dominate offensively in the series as they were able to win both games and secure their first two conference wins of the season. The first game was a back-and-forth affair which required extra innings to decide the winner, but CCU came out on top by a final score of 8-7. The second game was dominated by the Cougs with a final score of 9-2.

Game 1:Â Â The offense took a few innings to get into rhythm as they were held scoreless in the first three innings to start the game. Highlands took advantage and was able to jump out to an early 3-0 lead heading into the fourth inning after scoring two runs in the second inning, and another run in the third. In the fourth inning, the Cougars clawed back. After reaching thanks to a defensive error,
Eli Ludwig came around to score on a double by
Jordan Medina.
Gabe Ramos followed with an RBI single to score Medina. CCU tied the game thanks to baserunning as Ramos stole third and eventually scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 3-3.

The tied game didn't last long as Colorado Christian took the lead for the first time in the fifth inning.
Saxton Sorenson led off the fifth inning with a single.
Eli Ludwig also singled, then Sorenson and Ludwig each moved up into scoring position on a passed ball.
Wyatt Crenshaw hit a sacrifice fly which scored Sorenson and gave CCU the 4-3 lead.
Jordan Medina once again came through in the clutch collecting a key two out RBI single to push the lead to 5-3.

After Highlands scored one in their half of the fifth, CCU added onto their lead in the sixth.
Luke Thompson led off the inning with a double, and
Saxton Sorenson drew a walk to put two runners on bringing up Frankie Shearn. Shearn delivered as he doubled to score both Thompson and Sorenson and give CCU a 7-4 lead.

Highlands scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and tied the game in the seventh inning with a single run to send the game into extra innings.
Luke Thompson got the inning going as he led off with a double. With two outs Frankie Shearn came through in the clutch with a base hit scoring the go ahead and eventual game winning run in Thompson.
JC Watne collected the final three outs of the game to secure the victory.

Game 2:Â Â Â The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in game two as they scored twice in the opening frame.
Eli Ludwig singled,
Wyatt Crenshaw doubled, and both came around to score on a hit by
Jordan Medina.
Eli Ludwig added to the lead in the third inning with an RBI single scoring
Boedy Flores who had doubled to lead off the inning.

After New Mexico Highlands scored two runs in the fourth inning, CCU began to pull away in the fifth.
Eli Ludwig hit a sacrifice fly, and
Wyatt Crenshaw had an RBI triple to push the lead to 5-2. Colorado Christian added another run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to take the victory 9-2.

The Cougs got a great start on the mound from
Cameron Spaeth who went six innings allowing just four hits and striking out six.

The sweep of the doubleheader by Colorado Christian improves their record on the season to 4-11 overall, and 2-1 in conference play. The Cougars will take the field for the series finale against New Mexico Highlands on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm. Â Â Â Â
