Walkoff Blast Books Spot in RMAC Title Game for Cougars

GRAND JUNCTION,CO- Colorado Christian took on MSU Denver on day two of the RMAC Tournament on Friday, looking to put themselves in the championship game tomorrow. They did so in dramatic fashion, as Samaria Roope blasted a walkoff two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to claim the thrilling 5-4 victory for her team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was the third meeting between the Cougars and Roadrunners this season after the second day doubleheader was canceled due to weather. The two teams split on day one and each squad looked to get revenge from their earlier losses. Colorado Christian got on the board first in the second with a sacrifice fly from Roope. A solo blast from Miki Berg in the third stretched the lead to 2-0 before Metro made their move.

A costly error by the Cougars allowed three Roadrunners to cross the plate in the fourth as they snatched a 3-2 advantage. Logan Menzies responded immediately with an RBI double in the bottom half of the fourth to tie things up at three apiece.

A tense fifth and sixth inning ensued where both teams put runners on but were unable to break the tie. MSU Denver managed a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly as they took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh to put major pressure on the Cougars.

Just like they have done all season, Colorado Christian remained calm and collected as they looked to rally for the win. Kayla Middleton did her part with a leadoff single. With one down in the final inning, Roope launched an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left center as the Cougars dugout poured onto the field to celebrate the walk-off two-run blast and 5-4 victory.

UP NEXT- With the win, Colorado Christian advances to the title game at 2:30 p.m. on May 7. They will await several results to see their opponent. Colorado Mesa will play UCCS later tonight for a chance to play MSU Denver Saturday morning. The winner of Saturday's matchup will take on the Cougars, with Colorado Christian needing just one win to claim the RMAC tournament title and an automatic bid into the South Central Regional.
